1) Ratatat - Wild Cat. Definitely one of the best things we saw at the Secret Garden Party this year. Album is great too.

2) The Stone Roses - The Hardest Thing in the world. Reminds me of first kisses and motorbikes in the highlands. The Stone Roses were part of my childhood and I'll always love em for it.

3) Panda Bear - Comfy in Nautica. Top Brian Wilson-esque vibes from Noah Lennox. He also plays in the excellent Animal Collective who we share an agent with. So when you read this Mark if you could hook us a support slot that would make my day...

4) Fuck Buttons - Bright Tomorrow. Like the tune. Like the band name.

5) The Flaming Lips -Buggin'. I'm so glad the flaming lips exist. They always make me smile. This summer I discovered soft bulletin for the first time from Paul our bass player and it instantly became one of my favourite albums. The more I find out about this band the more I love them. Every spoonful ways a tonne.

6) Hudson Mohawk - Zoooom. Glitsch. Skweee. Whatever you want to call it. Mohawk Rules it.

7) Black Lips - Veni Vidi Vici. Young Guns from the Vice Label. But that's no reason to hate them. they're far from being a fashion band and when I saw them live last year they rocked the house.

8) LCD Soundsystem _ Momentum. I've been rinsing Mr.Murphy again this week. I know I put some Lcd in a mixtape before. But I'm still loving them this week too! Hopefully you are as well.

9) The Beach Boys - Surf's Up. This is my favourite Beach Boy's song. Heard it first after decking a bottle of £3 wine with Gwilym from the Golden Silvers. Top memory. Top tune. Glad you made it to the other side Gwil.

10) EL-P - Deep Space 9mm. My mate Raj used to mash this track at his club Traveller in Newcastle. Was there with DJ Krush listening to it and was spun out. Krush urned to me and siad "I'm so pleased to meet you". Was genuinely touched til I found out that those were the only words he knew how to say in english other than "please pass the towels!" Love to the Def Jux. Dedicated to Matt Dew...

This week has been bleak. Insomnia and the Blackest moods. But I'm happy now.

After the non-stop intense glamour working at the call centre trying to avoid my own personal credit crunch I've just had a great Saturday. St.Johnstone won 3-0 against Partick Thistle. Get in. Wrote a song I'm really happy with...Then met up with Si Clarke (guitar hero of milkteeth/hungerpangs) to grab some music. we spent our ill gotten call centre gains on coffee and cigarettes and records we don't really have the money to be buying.

I got Screaming Tea Party's new E.P "Golden Blue" which was predicatably brilliant. In my book the coolest band in the world right now.

Now off to meet another guitar hero Jack Ross to continue our quest to find the best turkish kebab house in east london. For those of you who wanna know the brilliantly named Testi at the start of stoke newington high street is currently edging it over the Bos Cirrik and Mangal Ocakbasi: both on Kingsland road.

More exciting than any of this my girl is coming back on monday after an aeon in the cooke islands and the northern territories, wrestling sharks and climbing volcanoes. i feel a bit like these dudes below...

1) Liquid Liquid - Rubbermiro (Tim goldsworthy mix)

More than just the cavern. Liquid liquid have depth in tunes. For those of you who don't already know them or 99 records, time to dive in.

2) Monkey Mafia - Lion in the Hall

Ace old school beats from Jon Carter's crew from back in the day. I first heard this as a kid at T- In the Park, in the middle of a bunch of weegies chanting "mitsubishis make you crazy." Good times.

3) The Dirtbombs - The Sharpest Claws

One of my favourite bands ever and probably the best gig that Super Nashwan have seen all together was by the dirtbombs. Let me repeat that ... by the dirtbombs, buy the dirtbombs, buy the dirtbombs. It's all great. Ko, Mick and roadbich all love to you. And I've just found out you're playing back over here on my birthday! get in.

4) The Invisible - Monster's Waltz (Kwes remix)

This track is a kaleidosope of my friends talent, Tom, Leo and Dave, produced by Matt Herbert, with backing vocals by Eska and then refried by fellow synaesthete Kwes! Although I have obvious bias, this is my favourite version of my favourite invisibles tune and I think it slams. Their single monsters waltz is out today. They have badges with pitcures of themselves coming out of the bath... What more do you want?

5) MGMT - Youth

dave fridmann + great songwriters = top album. still not boredof this album yet even though it's been spanked everywhere.
top work. I'm gonna spank some more.

6) Umek _ Libido

Si, George Smiley, lunatic dr. of techno, thank you for introducing me to this! The video is great too. Might have to whack that on the blog in another video bomb.

7) LCD Soundsystem - All my friends

Loved these guys ever since I got the 12" of losing my edge. I was there! This tune now has a special place in heart as Keir decided to crank it full blast at the end of an after party at our studio. Good choice man. A proper moment it was.

8) White Denim - Let's talk about it

Cool tune. Disappointed when I saw them though as no one else was wearing any white denim. A trick missed me thinks.

Right now am sinking into Don Paterson's new book of thoughts, poems and scribblings "The Blind Eye" - a book of late advice. It is brilliant. Here are ten favourite aphorisms from his last collection book of shadows:

Falling and flying are near-identical sensations, in all but one final detail. We should remember this when we see those men and women seemingly in love with their own decline.

Incidentally he also edited an anthology with my old poetry/creative writing teacher Jo Shapcott called Last Words. It's great too... as is Jo's first proper collection "Electroplating the Baby" Dive at them and paint your mind.

Last night I was invited down by the war of drugs to do their lighting at the windmill. I think I did pretty well apart from nearly electrocuting myself changing the bulbs and blowing the power for half the venue during soundcheck. I then truly surpassed myself by getting so hyped and into the gig that I knocked over the entire lighting mixer at the end of their encore. It sent the stage into a psychedilic fit at the end sort of like the tunnel in the gene wilder version of charlie and the chocolate factory . All this with only three settings at my disposal. Electric.

Here's the listing and what the songs mean to me.

1) The War on Drugs - Taking the Farm
Great Band. We'll be playing with them on the 14th at the Dublin Castle. London come down - they'll steal hearts. This is the 1st single from the album "Wagon Wheel Blues". It's top.

2) The Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal
The only track on Steve Lemacq's Roundtable show that got a higher score than us. The public were right! This is a cracker.

3) Daniel Johnston - Something's Last A long Time
It was kinda funny when Daniel Johnston played the windmill in Brixton last. You had to smile as tim had to give Daniel's spherical body a helping hand and foot through the gap from the bar to the stage. He only had to go that way cos he had filled the place to the rafters. Daniel Johnston then proceeded to make us all cry with some of the most honest and haunting songs ever. I try to use this word sparingly but the word genius does come to mind with this man.

4) The Black Angels - Never/Ever
taken from the album "directions to a ghost". apparently the house these guys play and record they kept on seeing an apparition of a little girl in a red dress, so they named the album after her. 8mins of spectral psychedelic joy.

5) The Early Years- All ones and zeroes
They made our bestival last year they did those fantastic early years.They swiped me some cider on the saturday, and then rocked it on the sunday as the final band we saw at the festival. A proper moment. A happening.

6) Shuggie Otis - Strawberry Letter 23
beautiful space soul. I was introduced to it by Phil Browne having a smoke out the front of the Free Trade over looking the Tyne. He had his cd player and phones on him and this was on it. God rest your soul man. You always had the best tunes.

7) Herald's of Change - Phewture.
Hudson Mohawk and Mike Slott. Kabooming the new glasgow beats. They're both truly Ace together and apart. Hopefully we'll have a remix from half of the heralds soon. watch this space.

8) Kwes (remix) / Super Nashwan - Larger than Life
The Cayote Wolf Himself holding a twisted mirror up to Super Nashwan. He's got a new 7" single coming out soon and you should all buy it.

The first video is Dorothy Love Coates of Gospel Harmonettes fame, the second is the Davis Sisters. This last video is of a woman called Marion Williams. I have a link with her through an amazing woman in Hackney who was good friends with her in the 60s and even went over to philly with her to sing in her church. Years ago she gave Marion Williams and many others a bed, friendship, some food and some sanctuary when they needed it most.. London could be a racist and rough place for a musician then. Still can be now I guess. Not so long ago when I had no place to stay she did the same for me and let me stay for a while. And last time I was round her house she pulled me out an old marion record: with a really touching hand written enscription to her. I'll no doubt tell you more about her another time. Until then if you like the above check out...
